BCCS Attends Roundtable to Discuss Opioid Crisis in Delaware

Today, BCCS CEO, Dr. Lynn Fahey, and BCCS Director of Prevention & Early Intervention, Nikole Papas, attended the Opiate Crisis Round-table discussion in Wilmington, Delaware.

Delaware, as many of you know, has been facing a devastating crisis of deaths due to heroin and opioid drug overdoses that has left no part of the country untouched. The tragedy of this epidemic is that it is preventable with the right programs and resources. U.S. Senator Chris Coons, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and Senate Law Enforcement caucus, along with Michael Botticelli, Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, convened the roundtable discussion to take a 360-degree look at the current opioid crisis facing Delaware.

The roundtable was designed to discuss the programs and resources that are provided by the Office of National Drug Control Policy, and also to bring to light some of the challenges communities across Delaware are facing in combating opioid abuse. The meeting involved families, first responders, law enforcement agencies, and the addiction/recovery communities. ONDCP Director Botticelli discussed available federal resources for communities throughout Delaware, such as the Drug-Free Communities Support Program and the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) Program.

BCCS is honored to be bring our expertise to such an important discussion, and we are hopeful about the possible initiatives on the horizon!
